Ferrous Silicon -Usage and Main Component
Ferrosilicon is made of iron and silicon,The composition of ferrosilicon are silicon, aluminum, carbon, sulfur, phosphorus.The component contentare shown in the figure below:

The usage of ferrosilicon:
1.Add a certain amount of silicon to the steel,can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of the steel,therefore the ferrosilicon always used as an alloying agent in the smelting of structural steel, tool steel, spring steel, and transformer silicon steel.Also used as inoculant and nodulizing agent in cast iron industry.
2.Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to cast iron can prevent the formation of carbide in iron,promote graphite precipitation and spheroidization.So Ferrosilicon is an important inoculant (to help precipitate graphite) and spheroidizing agent in the production of ductile iron.
3.Used as reducing agent in ferroalloy production.Not only there’s a high chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen , but also the low carbon content of high silicon ferrosilicon. Therefore, high silicon ferrosilicon (or siliceous alloy) is a commonly used reducing agent in the production of low carbon ferroalloy in ferroalloy industry.
4.Pulverized or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as suspended phase in mineral processing industry.
5.Can be used as electrode coating in electrode manufacturing
